Is there a more technical description
of PCBackup and Vigilance?

 Yes, here.

Can I choose what data is backed up?

Yes. Using VGSetup.exe, you specify Directories to be backed up.
You can also exclude Directories and File types.
You can easily exclude certain file types: VIDEO, MUSIC and PICTURE.
Note: many standard temporary files and directories are auto-ignored.

How do I know that my
backup is working?

 PCBackup provides a summary report.

Vigilance sends out a Summary Report by EMail every time it is run.
 We also monitor your backups.
If they have not run for a few days we will contact you.
We will regularly prompt you to check for other/new directories/data that
 should also be backed up.

Vigilance is a PRO-ACTIVE BACKUP SERVICE.

  Is my data encrypted?

Not automatically, but YES. You can apply encryption, using PCBCrypt.exe.

Can I limit the upload
bandwidth/speed?

 Yes.

Do I have to use ADSL/Broadband?

Any internet connection can be used, even a standard modem, though this
is not generally recommended! Any ADSL/SDSL/Cable/Leased Line is fine.

How do I download data from
my backup site?

Just use a web browser or an FTP program.
Detailed information is provided if you sign up to Vigilance.

Is my data secure?

Yes. We take this very seriously.

How do I work out how much
remote storage I need

 This can sometimes be tricky....
You can easily find out the amount required for data and My Documents
 directories
in Windows Explorer, use Right-Click, Properties.
Remember: you can apply "exclusions", such as Music/Video/etc. files.

For PC data, this usually depends on a user's email habits:

    Outlook Users -
do a search for all *.PST and .OST files
    Outlook Express Users -
do a search for all *.DBX files

Note: our 30 Day Free Trial Period usually sorts all this out anyway.

Can I backup Apple and Linux PCs?

PCBackup & Vigilance only run on Windows systems, but data used by
Apple and Linux PCs can be backed up if a PC is suitably network connected
 to them.
Note 1: Latest Intel-based Aplles may be able to run Vigilance.
Note 2: we can provide secure FTP storage for you to use instead. This
does not provide the advanced features of Vigilance, but does give you
a safe & secure offsite backup.

Do you have a discussion page
on data loss?

 Yes. Here.

Do you have any data loss statistics?

 Yes. Here.
